Respect, Relationships and Learning

At Hackham East Kindergarten we provide a play-based, child-centred program where curiosity, collaboration, imaginative play and critical thinking are nurtured.

We foster the emotional and social development of children through positive behaviour guidance and by encouraging strong, supportive relationships.

Welcome to Hackham East Kindergarten

Hackham East Kindergarten is a Department for Education preschool located in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, in the heart of Hackham. We learn and grow on the lands of the Kaurna people, and we acknowledge and deeply respect their enduring cultural and spiritual connection to Country.

We are a stand-alone kindergarten co-located with Hackham East Primary School, supporting strong continuity of learning and confident transitions to school. We offer 30 hours of preschool per fortnight for children in the year before school and operate during school terms.

Our curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework — Belonging, Being and Becoming — and the National Quality Standard. These frameworks shape our thinking, reflection and daily practice, ensuring we provide high-quality, responsive education for every child.

Our Community, Our Commitment

Our community is rich and diverse, with families bringing a wide range of experiences, strengths and stories. We understand that life can be complex at times, and we see our role as walking alongside families with compassion, equity and intentional support.

Many of our children benefit from additional layers of support, and we work collaboratively to ensure every child feels safe, capable and able to thrive. We partner closely with allied health professionals, support services and local networks to provide wraparound support that strengthens outcomes for children and families.

Inclusion is not an add-on here — it is embedded in our philosophy and daily practice. We are deeply committed to trauma-informed approaches, equitable access, and ensuring every child feels safe, seen and valued.

Wellbeing at the Heart

Wellbeing underpins everything we do.

We know that children thrive when they feel secure, connected and understood. For this reason, we are intentionally strengthening a whole-site focus on wellbeing, belonging and attunement — slowing down our practice to deepen relationships, support self-regulation and create calm, predictable environments.

We prioritise secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships with children, families and one another. We recognise that behaviour communicates need and respond with curiosity, consistency and care. We support children to develop emotional literacy, resilience and confidence as capable learners.

Our team is passionate, experienced and reflective. Through ongoing professional learning, critical reflection and data-informed planning, we continuously strengthen our impact and responsiveness to our community.

We believe every child has the right to succeed — socially, emotionally, culturally and academically — within a safe, inclusive and enriching environment.

At Hackham East Kindergarten, we don’t just prepare children for school.
We nurture capable, confident and connected learners who know they belong. 💛
